Friend,
Books can be mirrors so kids of all ages can see themselves reflected in society, to let them know that they are not alone, and that there are others out there just like them.
They can also be windows that give insight into other people’s experiences, teaching students empathy, tolerance, civility, and acceptance—qualities our country needs more of right now.
But finding these books can be a challenge—not to mention creating fun, exciting, meaningful learning experiences around them.
To help you bring age-appropriate, thought-provoking stories into your classroom, we’ve launched NEA’s new Read Across America 2018-19 online calendar. Each month features recommended titles and resources for elementary, middle grade, and teen readers to help you celebrate a diverse nation of readers year round.
Find books >
We hope that you’ll see how the books and resources we’ve provided can blend effectively into existing classroom activities, units of study, and even bedtime with your kids.
To help you share our recommended titles, nearly all of them are available through the First Book Marketplace. Eligible educators, librarians, program leaders, and others serving children in need can sign up to purchase titles at a significant discount.
So, check out the newly launched NEA Read Across America 2018-19 online calendar and resources.
These books and resources will strengthen your efforts to celebrate Read Across America year-round and enrich your kids’ understanding of themselves, their communities, and our diverse nation.
Happy reading,
